Which Canary Island Has the Cheapest Hotels This Winter?

Every winter the same argument kicks off in group chats: Tenerife for the nightlife, Lanzarote for the landscapes, Gran Canaria because someone’s already booked it. Nobody ever says Fuerteventura first. That’s a shame, because the hotel bill has a fairly blunt opinion on the matter.

We track nightly rates for two adults across the four Canary Islands we cover. A “typical” price here is the cheapest fifth of what we’ve seen in our scans, not a live quote and not a median. Checked against our destination data on 15 October 2026, Fuerteventura wins November, December and January. It isn’t close.

The winter scoreboard

Here’s the typical nightly rate for each island, month by month. Figures are tax-inclusive GBP for two adults, from past scans of Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com and Agoda:

IslandNov 2026Dec 2026Jan 2027
Fuerteventura£76 (412 scans)£81 (323)£76 (240)
Lanzarote£99 (618)£111 (481)£96 (360)
Tenerife£107 (618)£148 (483)£131 (360)
Gran Canaria£127 (618)£130 (484)£118 (360)

Fuerteventura sits at £76 in November and again in January. Lanzarote is the sensible runner-up. Gran Canaria is the dear one going into winter, and Tenerife in December is where the Christmas premium really flexes: £148 a night, almost double Fuerteventura’s £81. Same archipelago, same month, very different receipt.

Our cheapest Canary Islands ranking, updated 15 October 2026, puts the same order across all upcoming months: Fuerteventura first at a typical £75 a night (4,173 price points), then Gran Canaria (£95), Tenerife (£103) and Lanzarote (£104). Winter just makes the Tenerife gap louder.

How to read “typical”: it’s the cheapest fifth of scanned rates for two adults sharing, not an average of every room on the island. Month pages sometimes call this an “average”; we’re labelling it correctly here. Every number is from a past scan, so confirm the live total on the booking site before you pay.

December is the trap month

If you only remember one thing: December on Tenerife is expensive in a way the other islands aren’t. Our Tenerife December 2026 page puts the typical rate at £148 from 483 scans (cheapest seen £88). Shift the same trip to Fuerteventura in December and you’re looking at £81 from 323 scans. That’s £67 a night less on the typical figure, before you’ve even argued about flights.

November is gentler everywhere. Fuerteventura’s November 2026 page shows £76 from 412 scans, with rooms seen from £59. Tenerife November is £107 (618 scans). Still a gap, just not a Christmas-shaped one.

One named hotel, so this isn’t only island-level fog: Arena Suite Hotel in Corralejo has averaged £111 a night across 217 scans over 14 months (range £80 to £197, last updated 4 October 2026). Its July 2026 row alone has 101 scans at an average of £105. It’s not the bargain basement of the island, and that’s useful: even a mid-range Corralejo stay sits near what Tenerife is asking as a typical rate in quieter winter months.

So where should you actually go?

My verdict: book Fuerteventura if the hotel price is doing any of the deciding. It’s cheapest in every winter month we measure, and the sample sizes are solid enough to trust the shape of the data. Pick Lanzarote if you want a bit more polish and can live with roughly £20 to £30 a night more on the typical figure. Leave Tenerife December for people who specifically want Tenerife in December, not for anyone pretending it’s good value.

Weather is a different argument and we’re not pretending these pages settle it. Hotels, though? The scans are pretty rude about it.

Want to poke at November dates? Here’s Fuerteventura for 15–22 November 2026, two adults → That’s an affiliate link, so we may earn a small commission if you book; it doesn’t change your price. Compare whatever live rate comes back with the typical £76 above.
